چکیده

We develop a new data assimilation algorithm by employing a heuristic optimization approach named very fast simulated re-annealing (VFSA), which is capable of minimizing the cost function without using the adjoint model. The method is independent on model operator and observation operator, and has advantages in dealing with strong nonlinearities and discontinuities. Based on the VFSA algorithm, we design a land data assimilation scheme which can assimilate both the in situ measurement of soil moisture, and the passive microwave remote sensing observations into a land surface model. The scheme is tested with GAME-Tibet observations and TMI brightness temperature. Results show that it works successfully with strongly nonlinear land surface model, SiB2 and the radiative transfer model of moist soil. The cost value calculated from optimized initial state is much smaller and the bias from observations are also significantly reduced. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Integrating a very fast simulated annealing optimization algorithm for crop leaf area index variational assimilation

Leaf area index (LAI) is a major indicator for crop growth monitoring and yield estimation. Data assimilation as an effective tool for crop LAI estimation fully considers the properties of actual observations and physical model simulations. In this work, we present a new data assimilation scheme, introducing a very fast simulated annealing (VFSA) optimization algorithm into the process of crop ...

Application of very fast simulated annealing to the determination of the crustal structure beneath Tibet

The simulated annealing method has recently been applied to several multiparameter optimization problems, including those of geophysical inversion. A new variant of simulated annealing, called very fast simulated annealing (VFSA), overcomes some of the drawbacks of a conventional simulated annealing; it has been found to be a practical tool for geophysical inversion (Sen & Stoffa 1995). The met...

A New Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm for Job-shop Scheduling Problems

In this paper, we present a hybrid method combining Tabu Search (TS) optimization algorithm with the Very Fast Simulated Annealing (VFSA) procedure for the Job-shop Scheduling Problem (JSP). Tabu search algorithms are among the most effective approaches for solving the job shop scheduling problem which is one of the most difficult NP-complete problems. However, neighborhood structures and move ...

A VFSA Scheduler for Radiative Transfer Data in Climate Models

Scheduling and load-balancing techniques play an integral role in reducing the overall execution time of scientific applications on clustered multi-node systems. The increasing computational complexity and higher modeling resolutions of scientific applications makes balanced resource allocation a high priority. While many existing load-balancing approaches attempt to reduce cluster communicatio...

Development of a coupled land–atmosphere satellite data assimilation system for improved local atmospheric simulations

This study developed a coupled land–atmosphere satellite data assimilation system as a new physical downscaling approach, by coupling a mesoscale atmospheric model with a land data assimilation system (LDAS). The LDAS consists of a land surface scheme as the model operator, a radiative transfer model as the observation operator, and the simulated annealing method for minimizing the difference b...
